2014 Growth Diary – Six Weeks

These are the photos taken on June 22 2014, which is six weeks since I’ve planted the roses.

Bareroot Roses

All the bareroot roses are now growing very well – noticeable stem and leaf growth can be seen on all the bareroot roses.

In terms of stem growth, Nahema is the one that had the most obvious growth, seems it wants to start climbing already.

Both the growth of Jubilee Celebratin and Soeur Emmanulle are steady, some stem growth and some leaf growth.

Firefighter on the other hand is growing in the different way, not much stem growth or more leaves coming out, what’s happening is that the leaves look to be maturing, becoming greener and thicker.

Potted Roses

At this stage, the potted roses still have not really grown much. Honey Bouquet is still continuing to put out some leaves (albeit small ones).

Valencia on the other hand seemed to have stopped growing and it’s showing some signs of blackspot on the leaves. I can’t really blame it as the position I’ve put it in doesn’t really get any sunlight now.

The spot where I planted it has the most sunlight variation betweek winter and summer – greater than 5 hours of direct sun during summer, less than 2 hours of sun in winter and due to the lower height of the rose now, this 2 hours will only reach the top 2 inches.

It would be interesting to see how it grows when the sun starts to reach it more.

The next update will be their growth after another 2 weeks.

2014 Growth Diary – First Monthsary

It’s the first monthsary since I planted my 2014 roses and it’s time to update my growth diary again.

Bareroot Roses

This week, most of the mornings had some showers before the sun showed up for the day; which was good for the roses as it kept the soil moist but not wet.

The rose which seemed to grow the most this week was Nahema. You can clearly see new stems coming out, they grew about 1.5 – 2 inches this week.

Soeur Emmanulle and Jubilee Celebration have both started to noticeably leaf out too. Additionally, you can also clearly see the new stems coming out of Soeur Emmanuelle.

For Firefighter, there’s not much stem growth but the leaves look bigger and the overall effect is that it appears more dense compared to the other roses. Sort of like a bulky muscular wrestler against lean basketball players.

Potted Roses

The potted roses have not really grown much – just some new set of leaves starting to come out.

Same goes the my Valencia wherein I had to cut a stem too (encircled in yellow) that was turning yellow. Some of the leaves have grown bigger which I hope is a sign that it’s starting to establish itself in the ground.
